This trail is a favorite of many avid bikers, not only for its enjoyable ride down but also for its convenient location close by to downtown Durango. Was a great ride for me and my dirtbike. While a popular mountain bike location, Twin Buttes is also a multi-use trail system just west of Downtown Durango.

Climbs gradually, then connects to Upper Ed & Flo Trail. You have to work for every mile. The SMART 160 Trail (Safe Multi-modal Aesthetic Regional Transportation), has been a vision of Durango area residents since the mid 1990's. With public lands owned by the BLM and USFS surrounding City limits, our local trail systems connect our community to the beautiful forests and mountains surrounding downtown Durango. I’m 81 and not able to ride the complete trail at one time. The Animas River Trail is a recreational trail as well as an important component of the city's transportation network.

The Cheese Country trail, as other reviews state, is not a relaxing ride. Absolutely smashing ride all the way to Aiken (they seem to have opened up the preserve so there were a few extra miles). I highly recommend that anyone traveling through the area take the time to ride any portion of this trail. Durango, Colorado is a hiking paradise.

I rode on a weekend so there was quite a bit of ATV traffic. Perins Peak Trail is a rather lengthy and difficult hike, but it is also one of the most rewarding day hikes Durango has to offer.

Got in a good 13-mile round trip. Some of these resources include San Juan Cycles, Mountain Bike Specialists, 2nd Avenue Sports, the Trails 2000 nonprofit, Durango Cyclery, and Purgatory Resort. I'm from Southern California and currently on a motorhome trip visiting relatives in the area. Sorry.
