Enchanted Arms isn't a bad looking game, mind - in some places it can even look quite stunning - but on the whole it's a look that fails to inspire outside of certain events such as the CGI cutscenes and biggest and best special moves characters have to offer. The game starts off super slow, but once you put enough time and effort into this game, things really begin to pick up. Enchanted Arms plays like a traditional console role-playing game. Between battles, your characters automatically regenerate both their health points and their ether points, which are required to perform all attacks.

Also, for all the variety in golems and in battle situations, there’s a palpable lack of customization options for the human characters. Most of the attack effects are flashy and exaggerated, but they all look good. There is an insane amount of grinding throughout the game and a very boring and laborious exploit to increase your skills which is almost compulsory to succeed. Running through environments like these gets dull very quickly. The gameplay is poor quality and I ended up boxing it and returning it several days early after getting maybe 10 hours in. The English voice acting is pretty bad most of the time, but there's an option to listen to the Japanese voices instead. The nuts and bolts of the game are simple but effective. The game sticks closely to the console role-playing template made popular by the Final Fantasy series, to the point that even the victory music that plays after each battle sounds eerily familiar.
