Not many people know that animation studio Rankin/Bass made a few stabs into live-action productions. At the Bermuda Biological Station, he finds Eric and Dr. Paulis, friends and colleagues of his late father, and joins them on a quest for gigantic sea creatures. It is remarkable how this film resonates to those that saw it as a child.

The music, the situations, the cheesy effects .

Years later boy comes back to seaside town as man and starts seeing the young girl now as mysterious woman that seems to come out of ocean and is friend to giant sea turtle. Years ago (late 80’s to early 90’s), we watched a movie in which a seaside town is terrorized by a sea-monster which turns out to be a giant turtle. A getaway driver comes out of retirement to pull off one last run - one that could send him to an early grave instead.

I found this review site and was amazed at such similar stories. Directed by Steve Barron. A small-town police chief investigating a murder is offered help by a self-described psychic.

But Delia later tells him the full legend; Jennie Haniver was a beautiful but vain woman who bargained with a mysterious god to save her from a violent storm at sea, and was granted eternal life at the cost of becoming a sea creature who can never again live on land. I saw some of it again recently on a poor quality VHS tape and the minitaures suck, the title sequence is corny, and the acting is wanting, but the story itself, the images and tones that it offers from it´s romance of the sea is simply lovely and wonderful. External Reviews Kids were less than enchanted at the special effects, and my husband was looking at me like "really? Now that I've found this movie does anyone remember another made for TV movie around that time that involved twins sisters and one of them would turn into a giant black widow at midnight or something along those lines?

Upon seeing the crash, Eric rushes out onto the deck, but is confronted by Jennie. In the early 1970s, a young woman passing through rural Tennessee unintentionally gets caught in a feud between two local neighboring clans, the Feathers and the Gutshalls. While her future seems bright, she soon learns that everyone around her wants to use her. It was beautifully shot and though some of the special effects are outdated, it doesn't really subtract from the movie. I guess the first viewing may of disappointed me a bit. Then it disappeared.

What more could you ask for? He meets his childhood friend, Eric, at the docks. In the meantime, Magnus is dreaming of his childhood, playing on the same beach, watching a turtle egg hatch with his friend Jennie.

We thought maybe it was Blue Lagoon.

She begs him to free the turtle, nebulously saying she made a promise long ago she will forever regret. Eric and Magnus resume trawling. To his horror, her eyes glow an eerie green, just as the turtle surfaces under the boat, capsizing it.

Just please be warned, it is not a well made piece, just a great story and tribute to the mystery of the ocean. I know it sounds kind of corny, but there was just something about this film that I found fascinating. I saw it on cable television about 10 years ago.
